Take a look at this fluffy Maine coon cat owned by Stephy Hirst of Melbourne, Australia. He may become a contender is getting the world longest cat from the current record holder.
According to BBC, Ms. Hirst said that Omar is currently 120cm (3 ft and 11 in) in length, which qualifies him to become a largest cat in the world.
The current record holder is a Maine coon cat named Ludo, who is owned by Kelsey Gill West Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. According to the Guinness World of Records, Ludo is at 118.33 cm (3 ft 10.59 in) long and was measured on October 6, 2015.
Ms. Hirst said that she already submitted Omar’s measurements to Guinness and is waiting for a response. Currently, Omar is weighing in 14kg (31lb) and too heavy to regularly pick up so Ms. Hirst uses a dog crate to be able to go to the vet.
“He does take up a bit too much room on the bed so he gets locked out of the bedroom at night,” she said via BBC.
Regarding Omar’s diet, it is quite surprising since it is commonly known for cats to eat cat food all day.
“We buy human-grade kangaroo meat at the supermarket,” Hirst told the BBC. “It’s the only meat we could find that he actually wants to eat.”
This Maine coon cat started to get attention from people when Ms. Hirst created Omar an instagram account with the handle @omar_mainecoon two weeks ago. Then one of Omar’s photos was shared on Cats of Instagram account and garnered more than 270,000.
Afterward, the placid pet started to appear in major Australian newspapers and on national TV.
“He hasn’t really been coping with all the attention,” Ms. Hirst told the BBC. “He had a little bit of a meltdown this morning.”
Omar usually starts his day by waking up at 05:00 in the morning and eats a couple of scoops of dry cat food for breakfast. He then lounges around the house and plays outside, naps on the trampoline. Lastly, he eats human-grade kangaroo meat for dinner.
